The pot holders in the daredevil kitchen! You need them for one show that is instant creativity on the spot!
You are in for a real treat, you just don't know what you'll be served! You roll the dice in this menu!!!

Mallory Moad is a real magician--- a creator of magic for our benefit.
She says it is and it is.(and that's alchemy/wizardy, right?)
She creates otherworlds by setting up "other-situations". Big budget props? Low budget-props? It doesn't matter. They are all transformed along with, most importantly, ...our "point of view"----our mundane perspective on a what she shows us to be a Magical World---and I think this may be her biggest ArtGift to us---like Dr. Seuss, or Magritte, or Man Ray or other wacky dadafolk---
she opens us up to the magic and creativity that are always all around us if we could just see it her way.
[ok, yeah I'm a friend of hers, so you may call "prejudice", but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate her work!]

It's the hit or miss factor that I really enjoy about the Daredevil Kitchen productions. Too many people "don't get it" because society has programed them to want a "sure thing." Yes, it is quirky and sometimes it misses... but it's the thrill of journeying with the artist that makes it such an adventure.

Oh, yeah, I had MUCH fun at this show. It is a hit or miss thing, but as an audeince member, you HAVE to participate, or it's going to miss every time.

I wish there were more wheel options, but Mallory's mind is optimistic and loving and caring and for that reason alone you should go to this show.

I've been a Dada art fan for many years now, and I have dreamed of someday having a Dada art festival here in Fresno. (Anyone else?) It was sure a treat to see Ms. Moad use this crazy form a creativity right here in our own back yard. Well done, Ms. Moad! Well done! And thanks for reminding me to cleanse my aura.

"Thanks for coming to my weird show," Mallory said after the applause. Weird? Well, not exactly. Any show that includes Dada in the title and admits upfront that there will be random and unpredictable events lets the audience know ahead of time that this is not your typical entertainment.

Is it Dada? I don't expect many Rogue-goers were expecting an anti-bourgeois, anti-art, anti-war (WWI, mind you) performance-- and Mallory never promised a historically-frozen Dada. You could argue that in staging a show totally determined by the spin of a wheel and the willingness of the audience to participate, the anti-aesthetic spirit of Dada was alive and well.

Mallory, however, is not totally anti-aesthetics. She doesn't reject the idea that art should have a meaning. Instead, she allows the elements of chance and audience participation to provide the meaning. And like others have noted, it's hit or miss. A chance for the audience to write how they will confront their fears on a paper bag, which covers Mallory's head visually and textually had depth that other chance stagings (the audience drawing magic marker tattoos on her arms) lacked.

Sure, coming from a theatre background, I wished there was more "theatricality," like music to cover the set ups and interludes between the many mini-performances, and more narrative... but that's my bourgeois sensibilities talking, the very ones that Dada seeks to confront in the first place, so in this case Mallory's efforts are dead on.
